Lee I am so very sorry to have learned of John's passing. My family sends their sincerest sympathy to you and your entire family. Such a bright, engaging, and kind man. When we worked together in the DAs office he was a pillar of wisdom end guidance for me to rely on, and always with his great sense of humor as well. I've carried his good judgment and kindness with me ever since. We were all lucky to have him in our lives, he is sadly missed by all who knew him. Best wishes Lee.

I’m very sorry for the loss to your family, and I will miss John very much. He was fun to know, and a great and patient teacher of our Irish language classes. He loved to laugh at his own struggles with learning languages as a way of telling us not to be discouraged. His story of a mistranslation he and a friend made of a Russian short story as students was one he enjoyed telling and it was helpful to know that he could understand our own difficulties. He was quick-witted and always fun to talk to. I will think of him with gratitude every time I pronounce something correctly in Irish. He was a good friend to all of us.

My deepest condolences to John's family. He and I were colleagues at OASIS. I also took his Irish classes. He was an excellent teacher. I admired his patience and dry wit as he led us through the intricacies of the Irish language. As a colleague, I enjoyed our lively discussions on linguistics and language pedagogy. I shall miss him.

My sincere condolences to the Laparo family on the passing of John. I only knew John through the Zoom Irish class he taught through Oasis. I only wish that I had been able to meet him in person. He was a great teacher and I so enjoyed his class. May he RIP.

Uncle Johnnie meant the world to me. His understanding, empathy and capacity to love seemed almost endless. I will forever remember the way he made me feel so special and cared for. I can only hope he realized how much I loved and admired him. His sense of humor, wit and laughter were priceless. Uncle Johnnie had the ability to bring people together, encourage meaningful dialogue creating wonderful memories of time spent together. His voice was a gift, his spoken word, written word and an incredible talent for singing. Nothing in life meant more to him than his family.. Taking the very best care of his family as possible, I believe was more important to Uncle Johnnie than anything in this world, and of all his accomplishments his family’s happiness would be top on his list. For it was they who brought him the greatest joy. Uncle Johnnie loved philosophy, politics and current affairs. I enjoyed long discussions with him on so many different topics. Every conversation I learned something new. Uncle Johnnie loved learning and teaching. Acquiring knowledge was an exciting and challenging endeavour, one to be revered, and one which revealed character. Uncle Johnnie I will miss you so much. I’ll always feel the deepest gratitude for the love and good times we shared. You will forever be in my heart. Rest Peacefully. Love, Junie

Mr. LaParo was our Russian teacher when I was a senior at St. Vincent de Paul High School. So many memories. We were not the best or most respectful class but he kept coming back. Just for his experience with us he probably earned his place in heaven. He told me.....young lady you have unmitigated gall. I still remember the look on his face when I said.....What does that mean? Hope he knew we all grew up as productive citizens....and we did really appreciate him.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. In the early to late 80's while assigned to the DA's office from OCSD. I had many occasions to interact with Chief LaParo and he was such an impressive man and saw firsthand his compassion and wisdom in dealing with the law and victims of DWI cases.
He was such a great mentor with a positive outlook on his career and life, He always spoke with pride of his family and made my 7-year stint enjoyable to come to work each day.
I wish John peace and eternal rest.
