Obituary of Eleanor K. Burns
Eleanor Dixon Burns, 90, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, after a long illness.
Eleanor was one of six siblings, born to Lillian and Michael Dixon. She grew up on the West Side of Syracuse, graduating from St. Lucy’s High School in 1950. Eleanor married her childhood sweetheart, Harry, in 1953, and together they raised eight children. She was very active in her church, St. Brigid’s. She found the most joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Eleanor is predeceased by her daughter, Martha Byrne, sisters, Mary and Grace (Bill Schoff), brothers, William and Patrick (Barbara), and in-laws, Michael (Dolly) and John Burns and Margaret Cilurzo.
Eleanor is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 69 years, Harry, her loving children, Terry (Mike) Chajka, Anne, Harry (Terri Fogarty), Pat (Terri), Michael (Kelly), Mary Ellen (John) Gossin, Lillian (John) Costello, and son-in-law, Bill Byrne. She is further survived by her brother, Robert (Nancy) Dixon, fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, as well as her in-laws, Anna Burns, Jimmy (Jo-Ann) Burns, and Joseph Cilurzo and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass for Eleanor will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's St. Brigid's Church. Calling hour will be held prior from 9:30AM – 10:30AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Eleanor’s memory may be made to Saint Patrick/Saint Brigid’s Food Pantry.
