Joseph Robert Wright, 65, passed away peacefully on November 5 after a prolonged illness. Born and raised on the Southside of Syracuse, Joe attended St. Anthony elementary and Corcoran high school. Joey was the youngest of four children. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Mary Jane (Baker) Wright, his sister, Eleanor (Mitzi) and his brother, William. Surviving are his brother, James (Anne) Wright, his nephews, James Jr. (Briana) Wright and Daniel (Marisa) Wright, as well as grandnieces and nephews, Penelope, Mabel, Roman, Paxon and Maclin.

Joey retired from the City of Syracuse DPW and was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Joey enjoyed playing basketball and golf in his younger years. He was a big fan of all SU sports and PGA golf. A music history buff, he could remember artists and titles from songs dating back to the 50’s and on.

One of Joey’s most cherished memories were watching his nephews, James and Daniel grow up and become young men. He constantly kept track of their activities and especially enjoyed spending time with them.

Per Joey’s wishes, a private service was held at Edward Ryan and Son Funeral Home and burial is in Loomis Hill Cemetery. Donations in Joey’s memory can be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1515 Midland Ave, Syracuse NY 13205.
