Obituary of Thomas J. Carroll

Thomas J. Carroll died in Groveport, OH on February 1, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

Tom was born on June 2, 1947, in Syracuse, NY to John and Dorothy (MacDonald) Carroll.  He attended Most Holy Rosary Elementary School, CBA, St Gregory’s College, and graduated from Oklahoma State University.  Tom was a member of the Air Force Reserve following graduation. Tom worked for nearly three decades for Nationwide Insurance, first in Syracuse, then in Columbus, Ohio at corporate headquarters. Tom became corporate General Manager for Reinsurance until his retirement. Tom then acted as a consultant to several companies involved in reinsurance.  Tom was also an avid scratch golfer winning many tournaments and club championships.

Tom is predeceased by his parents and his brother John “Jerry” Carroll.

Tom is survived by his son, Dr. James (Diane) Carroll, and his grandchildren Alexis and Jason Carroll of Newark, DE. He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Betty) Carroll of Syracuse, NY, Peter Carroll of Rye Beach, NH, his sisters Nancy (John) Wolfe of Saugerties, NY, Mary Carroll of Portland, OR, Susan Storie of Stevenson, WA, and Marcia Brown of Rye Beach, NH, several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well his many Irish cousins in North Tipperary, Ireland.  

No services are planned. A reception is planned in the Spring in Syracuse to remember Tom.  As per Tom’s wishes, contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to Christian Brothers Academy (www.cbasyracuse.org) or to Lourdes Camp (www.lourdescamp.com).
