Obituary of James T. Hallinan
James "Jim" T. Hallinan passed away on March 27, 2023 after a long illness. Jim was a devoted father, loving husband, talented optician and trusted friend to many. He was a lifelong Syracuse area resident born to James T. Hallinan Sr and Helen Ragan Hallinan on December 29, 1939, and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Suzanne Burke Hallinan, his five children, Shannon (William) Wicks, Daniel (Erin) Hallinan, Erin (Scott) Shaheen, Christy (Morgan) Davidson Hallinan, and Ted Hallinan and his seven grandchildren whom enjoyed immensely: Liam Wicks, Connor Wicks, Julia Wicks, Sadie Shaheen, Celia Shaheen, Natalie Hallinan and Camryn Hallinan. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret "Marnie" Fish and brothers: Michael (Sharon) Hallinan, John (Ann) Hallinan, and Edward (Pat Hill) Hallinan. His sister, Patricia "Tish" Kelly passed away in 2015.
He graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School and Erie Technical Institute before he went to work for Gramsey Optometrist in Fairmount Fair as an Optician in the early 1960s. Jim practiced for 55 years, much of it as a solo practitioner, See the Difference, in Fairmount NY and went to work with Druger Eye Care after he retired from his own practice. He enjoyed his work and many of his patients who became friends, but he will be remembered for his generous contributions of his time coaching his children's little league teams; and his ardent support of all of his children's and grandchildren's artistic athletic, musical and theater pursuits. Jim enjoyed his family and friends, had a terrific sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
Calling Hours will be held from 9-10 AM Friday, March 31, 2023 at St Patrick's Church at 216 North Lowell Street in Tipperary Hill. Funeral Mass will immediately follow from 10-11AM.
