Obituary of Jerry W. Smith

Jerry “JW” Smith passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023, after a long illness. He was born to Homer and Hannah (Colby) Smith on June 24, 1940. Jerry grew up in Truxton, NY and was a long-time resident of Tipperary Hill . He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann (Young) Smith, his three daughters, Sharon (Jon) Grund, Katie (Steve) Roesch, and Tricia (Ken) Baker and his seven grandchildren whom he loved to brag about, Dan Roesch, Tess Roesch, Betsy Roesch, Natalie Grund, Archie Baker, George Baker, and Kate Grund. He is also survived by his brother in-law Bob (Reenie) Young, sister in-law Judy (Zbig) Borsz, his brothers Bill Smith, and Tom (Sina) Smith as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Bob.

Jerry graduated from Morrisville College and worked for Agway Insurance as a Data Analysis, Computer Programmer for 25 years. Jerry was President of the Syracuse Professional Bowlers Association for many years and was also recognized by the American Red Cross as an Eight Gallon Plus Blood Doner. He loved living on Tipperary Hill and socializing at the neighborhood pubs. Jerry was a huge fan of SU Basketball, enjoyed bowling, playing solitaire, and sitting in the sun listening to country music. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

Per Jerry’s wishes, his body was donated to the Upstate Anatomical Gift Program for study. Mary Ann and his daughters would like to invite family and friends to join them in a Celebration of Life at Twin Trees Too on Milton Ave on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 11-2.
