Obituary of Edythe Sakran
Edythe A. Sakran passed on to be reunited with her husband and mother on May 5th surrounded by her loving family. Mema, as she was affectionately known by her family, was a loving woman known for her passion, her humor and her unbending love for her family and friends. Along with her husband Bill, they ran their own grocery store for over 40 years. Sakran’s Market was a neighborhood institution where everyone was welcome and treated like family.
Above all else, “family” was the central theme in her life and her home was always the gathering place for love, laughter and good times shared with the people who mattered most. Whether it was a family celebration, or just mornings with her beloved Winkworth Ladies Coffee Club, the door was always open and everyone was made to feel right at home. She was also a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hiberians. Her favorite thing in life, though, was her children and grandchildren and she never missed an opportunity to support them throughout their lives and athletic endeavors with love and support.
Edie will be welcomed into heaven by her husband, William Sakran, her mother, Belle Roulton, her father, James Dowdell, her sister Barbara Parrow, and her niece, Lisa Merriman. Left to cherish her memory are her children Mary Marnell (Jay) of Syracuse, David Sakran (Colleen) of Syracuse and William Sakran (Christina) of Pelham, NY. She also leaves behind what brought her the greatest joy of her life, her grandchildren Tyler, Nathan and Jacob Nigolian, Galen and Morgan Hayes, Mia and Holden Sakran and Danny and Chris Marnell as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her Crouse family on 5 South for their love, care and support during her final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 10am at Most Holy Rosary Church. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 4-7pm at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Edie would like, in lieu of flowers, any donations on her behalf to be made to the CNY
SPCA.
