Dear Hungerfords, May God‘s peace and love abide in you as your hearts mend from your loss. May your love for one another and for Mike (husband, dad, father-in-law, grandfather) be the binding life force that comforts you in your grief. Love never ends.

I am just seeing this, and I am so sorry to learn of Mike's passing. I grew up in Washington Mills next door to the Hungerfords. It was a rural-suburban neighborhood surrounded by farmland. We trooped through fields and hunted frogs in ponds. Mike once fell through the ice on a stream one warm day in early spring. In our teens we talked politics and listened to the music of the sixties. Here is a 1961 photo taken of me by Mike in his room. Note the "politics" display over my shoulder. Mike's mom, Shirley, subscribed the Time-Life series of great books, and Mike would receive a new book each month. He lent me “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.” It was my introduction to James Joyce. We went our separate ways in college and thereafter, but our lives remained connected in ways I only understand from Mike’s obituary. I too was a conscientious objector. Mike did his community service in the OR at Community General, years before I worked in the administration there. Twenty years ago, we met one late afternoon in the doctor’s parking lot at Community. I was headed to a meeting outside. He was headed inside to represent the interests of a patient on the psychiatric unit. We chatted fondly but were both in a hurry. Why didn’t we reconnect in our latter years? I regret not doing so. Rest in peace, Mike. You lived your values.

Margaret--I am so, so sorry for your loss. Mike lived such an extraordinary life and is such an inspiration. Everyone at Grace is grateful that you both were part of the "church family" over the years. Please share our sympathy and "virtual hugs" with your children. Prayers and sympathy, Susan Keeter

My condolences to the family. I worked with Mike many years ago at the Attorney General’s office in Consumer Fraud. I remember Mike as a guy with a great outlook on life. He was easy to talk to about anything and seemed to enjoy his job very much. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Mike was a true champion for people who were struggling with mental illness or people who were " down on their luck". He was a reliable, consistent volunteer at Grace church making sure people didn't go hungry. He was the nicest guy you would ever want to meet. RIP and job well done Mike.
YES Mike I will vote for Harris/Walz.

My condolences for your loss. Mike always had a smile in the morning for me. I was especially fond of seeing him "go on the lamb" and get some alone time. I was always appreciative of Margaret's dedication and willingness to push for better; not for Mike alone, but for all who call St. Camillus home.
My deepest sympathies.

Worked with both Mike and Margaret at LSCY. The Hungerford was so blessed to have Mike as a husband, dad and granddad. Mike loved giving back, did not hesitate to show empathy. Remember all the great times you’ve shared spread his love. My ballot will arrive in my mail box.

I worked with Mike during his time with Mental Hygiene Legal Service, and during that time he always was a dedicated advocate for the mentally ill. A sense of fidelity like that is hard to come by.
