Rita Morrissey Obituary

Rita Morrissey, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family.

Rita is predeceased by her parents, Catherine and Thomas Sheehan, and her son, James Morrissey. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 72 years, James Morrissey. Rita is also survived by her four daughters: Ann (Mark) Barlow, Kathryn (Thomas) Saxton, Susan Junior, and Diane (James) Chitwood. Her legacy continues through her sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom she adored.

Rita had a remarkable ability to make every family gathering memorable with her warmth and creativity. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she pursued her passion for knowledge at University College in Syracuse, NY. Rita, alongside her husband Jim, shared a love for golf, and they were proud members of Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club in Palm City, FL, and Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse, NY.

A private ceremony will be held in Stuart, Florida, for her family to honor her remarkable life and the many ways she touched their hearts.

Rita will be deeply missed but remembered with love and gratitude for the joy and wisdom she brought to all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rita’s memory may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice Foundation, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997 (or online at www.treasurehealth.org/Donate).
