Sandra R. (Wilson) Murphy
August 15, 1943 - October 12, 2024
Sandra passed away Saturday at Community Hospital from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in Auburn, NY, Sandra was the second of four children and attended St. Hyacinth's Elementary School and Mount Carmel High School. After high school graduation, Sandra enrolled in St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and earned her RN, specializing in pediatric care. After graduating in 1964, Sandra remained in the Syracuse area where she met her husband, Michael. They were married on Thanksgiving Day 1965.
After taking time off to raise her young family, Sandra began a new career when she joined the Accounts Receivable Department at GTE Sylvania in Camillus. She later returned to pediatric nursing working overnight shifts at Crouse Hospital. While there, Sandra was often found assisting in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, singing to premature babies to comfort them. Sandra further extended her nursing career for several years assisting with oral surgery in the Liverpool office of Gary Schopfer, DDS. She will be remembered for her affection for children and family, her staunch commitment to her faith, her pride in her Polish heritage, and her allegiance to family and friends.
Sandra was predeceased by her parents, Stella (Techman) Wilson and Donald Wilson, and her brothers Peter Wilson and Donald Wilson. She is survived by her husband Michael C. Murphy, her sister Mary (Mimi) Lavey of Auburn, her daughter Sandra Murphy (Brian Peck) of Cicero, her son Michael P. Murphy of Lancaster, PA, her daughter Dianne Edie (Shawn) of Marcellus, her grandsons, Garrett, Connor, and Jameson, also of Marcellus, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 20, 2024, 12pm to 3pm at Edward J Ryan & Son Funeral Home located at 3180 Bellevue Ave. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church located at 216 N Lowell Ave. on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 10:00am.
Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery located on Kimber Rd. in DeWitt.
