Obituary of John A. Bartle
John Bartle, aged 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, in Syracuse, New York. A beloved figure known for his sociable nature and love for life, John was a cherished member of his community.
Born to Glenn Sr. and Helen Bartle, John was a proud graduate of Westhill High School, Class of 1965. He furthered his education at several institutions, including SUNY Fredonia, Ithaca College, University of Maine, and finally graduated from SUNY Oswego. No, he did not become a doctor; but he thoroughly enjoyed each! Ironically, his two daughters would also graduate from the same Upstate NY spot.
John cultivated his lifelong passion for learning with his role as a Teacher's Aid at Soule Rd. Middle School. Later, he would spend many years at Midstate Elevator, before demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit as the Co-Founder and former owner of Accessibility Solutions from 1996 to 2016. Serendipitously, his daughter would rely on one of his stairchairs later-on.
John's life was enriched by his love for history, music, and literature. A true Cape Codder heart, he would spend his vacations at Corn Hill with his family and friends. John also found joy in golfing, yardwork, and camping. He was a familiar face at local watering holes and haunts, where he enjoyed a cold beer and lively conversation. His eclectic taste in music included Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, John Prine, and The Eagles. He also was an avid fan of Syracuse University Sports, and you could always find a crossword puzzle in his possession.
John's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his son, Matthew Deno (Marcy), daughters Jessica Flynn (Bobby) and Betsy Steehler (Bob), and his cherished grandchildren, Peyton Deno, Ellison Steehler, and Shane Steehler. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glenn Jr. and sister-in-law Nancy Bartle, and his nephew Brian Morgan.
Heartfelt thanks go to the truly exceptional nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the angels at Francis House, who provided much more than nursing care for John, but also provided a peaceful and compassionate environment during his transition from this life to the next.
A private memorial service will be held for family. John requested a celebration of life at Asil's Pub on Saturday, January 11, from 1 – 4 PM. Friends and family are encouraged to gather, imbibe, and share all of the good times spent with him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Francis House and/or MS Resources of CNY, reflecting John's generous spirit and commitment to helping others. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
