Obituary of George M. Awad
George Michael Awad - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend - passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home in Syracuse, NY on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
George was born to Victor and Joan Awad in Syracuse, NY on July 28, 1959, the town in which he grew up and later met his wife, Sherry. George was known to be incredibly hard working and strategic, which led to a very successful career and legacy of 40+ years in the financial industry as an investment advisor for John Hancock, Generations Bank and various others. George won many awards of achievement throughout his professional career, including the Transamerica Top of the Pyramid Award for 5 consecutive years.
Those who were fortunate enough to know George know that he was so incredibly proud of his two sons and daughter, Michael, Christopher, and Nicole. George often won vacations and dinners from excelling in the financial sector, which he always used toward spending quality time with his family.
George is remembered as “Coach Awad,” having helped to lead Michael and Christoper in their football, basketball and baseball games. “Mr. Awad” was also a commonly spoken name when George spent time with his childrens’ friends. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time to joke with his children and their friends, whether it be during intense Call of Duty Games or during family dinners.
At only 65, George had a lifetime’s worth of pride, and he wore it on his face everyday. He was so very proud of his daughter for all of her achievements, and he never missed a moment to brag about her (especially to strangers). He loved being a father of boys, playing and joking, but man did he also adore his daughter.
George’s sense of humor was truly unmatched, a little crass and wonderfully unique. He never ever failed to put a smile on everyone’s face. Many of George’s “famous quotes” live on through the people he touched.
One of George’s best roles toward the end of his life was, “Grandpa”. Being a grandpa came naturally to George, whether it be being goofy on FaceTime his granddaughter, coming over just to see the dogs, or simply always checking in on the cats. His granddaughter loved hearing, “Paisley! You’re so pretty!”. George also loved his dog, Gracie, who spent nearly every minute by his side.
George was a beloved brother to his brother, John and sister, Julie. He enjoyed the many visits from his brother during which Syracuse sports were commonly discussed. George also loved checking in on his sister, and her pets. Uncle George was loved by all his nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his father, Victor, his cousin, Alfred Jr, dog, Duchess and many others. George is survived by his wife, Sherry; their three children Michael, Christopher (Nikki) and Nicole (Philip); grandchild, Paisley; his mother, Joan; his brother, John, and his sister, Julie (Bryan).
Services are private to close family and friends.
To honor George’s memory, his family is asking any who would like to donate to the CNY SPCA.
