Arlene M. Hyland, 97, of Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

Arlene was born in Syracuse on July 19, 1927 to the late Otto and Mary Volmer. She worked as a waitress for many years throughout CNY, and especially cherished her time at Drumlins. Arlene enjoyed taking the kids on adventures, painting, walking and being with family. She organized the family picnic every year at Marcellus Park.

Arlene is predeceased by her parents, husband, Robert, sons-in-law, Michael Shields, David Milazzo, and Edward Uhlig, stepson, Paul Hyland, brothers, Raymond (Mary) Vollmer and Paul Vollmer, and sister-in-law, Rose Roffo Volmer.

 She is survived by her daughters; Roberta Hyland-Uhlig (Milazzo), Marie Shields, Marian “Punkie” (Dick) Lighton, and Richard (Dorothy) Hyland, stepdaughter-in-law, Linda Hyland, sister-in-law, Rita Vollmer, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11am at Our Lady of Hope at St. James. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 4 to 6pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be in Onondaga County Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
