John, God love you! We shared time together in the seminary; you married my wife Kathy and me 57 years ago..
we’re still a loving partnership.
I haven’t been close to you in many years, but I often think of you, Pete Creed and John Godfrey at that special wedding.
I wish you Godspeed and the Heaven you always deserved!

I have so many fond memories of Fr. John while he was at Immaculate Heart of Mary. The memory that I will always cherish is when Fr. John was waiting for us in our driveway when we arrived home from the hospital after the death of my husband from a horrific accident. He spent that whole day and days after praying with us. His kindness will never be forgotten by my family. Rest in peace Fr. John. You were a good and faithful servant to God. Love, Mary Marsella and the Marsella family

Father Ahern married us in 1990 at Most Holy Rosary Church. What I remember most about him was his kindness and patience with me, as I could not stop crying through the ceremony. We returned to him just over a year later, to have him baptize our son. Again he was so patient, he even offered to hold and feed the baby... and he was great at it! He was just a wonderful person, and he will be missed.

I remember Father Aherne from his time at St. Margaret's many years ago. He was one of our family's favorites...always kind, outgoing, caring, and upbeat. He was a great fan of St. Margaret's Catholic Youth Basketball Program. Our thoughts and our prayers are with his family, but we know he is in heaven and reunited with family. God Bless Father John! I met Fr. John and his family soon after I joined the AOH in 1955 and we became frequent visitors to the Syracuse club rooms, especially when Lynch &Ahern were playing. I was honored to appoint my friend Fr. John as NYS & National Chaplain when I became AOH NYS & Nat’l President. He was a great ambassador for the Order and was respected by all.

To Father Ahern's family,
Our condolences in your loss of a beloved person. We always enjoyed his homilies at Holy Cross, sharing a humorous story every now and then. He was so kind and the manner in which he celebrated the Eucharist remains engraved in our memories. May he rest in peace as he reunites with his loved ones who went before him. With our sympathy,
Michael and Annette

Rest in Peace Father Ahern. You were a stellar travel companion every year we made the trip to NYC to offer donations to the Teen Shelter. You were an inspiration as a young adult in the church and I will always remember you as a kind and compassionate soul.
