Obituary of Daniel G. Erwin

Daniel G. Erwin died on Sunday April 6, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, surrounded by family members. He was born on February 2, 1951 on his parents' wedding anniversary. Dan was a lifelong resident of Syracuse. He graduated from Corcoran High School and attended Onondaga Community College. Dan followed in his father's footsteps of serving as a policeman for 35 years for the City of Syracuse Police Department. He joined the PD in November of 1972 and retired on St. Patty's Day in 2007. He served his last 15 years as a crime scene investigator with the detective's unit.
Dan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed camping and four wheeling with the Lone Pine Posse, which were activities he shared with his wife, Patty. Dan will be remembered for his generous spirit and love of life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Grace (Chrisfield) Erwin, and his wife Glenda W. Matherson Erwin.
He is survived by his current wife of 3 years, Patty (Faulstick), his brothers, Edward, Timothy, and Marty Erwin, his sister, Mary Ellen Holgate, his daughter, Erin Canel, and his step children, Bridget Bean and Glenda Bingold, along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, April 14th at 7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Syracuse, NY 13204. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7pm, prior to the service. Burial will be private.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the City of Syracuse Police P.B.A. 511 S. State St. Syracuse, NY 13202, attn: Jeff Piedmonte, President to support the police officers memorial fund. Or to Team Red White and Blue, a veteran reintegration organization at teamrwb.org.
