In his charming and able manner, Mr. Barry touched and improved so many lives. Luckily, he never forgot his Solvay roots. It was my privilege – and a great kindness to the village of Solvay – that he was a first and significant contributor to the book, Solvay Stories. His many memories recorded in those pages keep him with us and still supporting the village he loved. What a wonderful man. It was my honor and delight to have known him.

"Scratch" was Uncle Jimmy's nickname and "Squint" was my dad Don Barry's nickname. It's comforting to know that "Scratch" and "Squint" are once again together in heaven!
God's Peace be with you Uncle Jimmy.

I had the pleasure of being Mr. Barry's neighbor at his last Syracuse address. I look at his former house every day and think of him. He was so enjoyable and interesting to talk to and was one of the most kindest thoughtful person I have ever met. His stories of his political days painted a picture of what every politician should be.... honest, trust worthy, hard working and productive. I have missed him dearly since he moved to Florida and always wished I could have one more conversation with him. I thought the world of him. I understand his neighbor's in Florida took good care of him which comforts me that he was appreciated wherever he went. God bless you Jim Barry and God bless all those who comforted you in your last years. May you rest in peace as you join your wife and children in heaven.

Mr. (grandpa) Barry, It was my honor to know you. I was amazed at the sharpness of your mind and your quickness with numbers. It was always so interesting to hear your stories, from your humble beginning with Betty (in one room) to the two of you having dinner with your friend Bobby Kennedy. I can still hear you say " Bonnie, where have you been, I've got a lot of work lined up for you". The world is a better place for you having been in it. Love, Bonnie

James Barry (or as I always called him) GRANDPA was and is a great man for many great reasons, the least of which is his kindness. The countless stories of helping people on an individual scale, all the way to fighting for an entire cities need to have clean water and basic sewer. He was a man of incredible integrity. He always told us that the only thing you have is your reputation and good name and his was impeccable. Personally I will remember all the little things. Sitting on his lap as a little girl driving the car down single drive in North Syracuse(maybe not so safe, but sure a lot of fun). He and my grandmother taking care of me when I was little because mom was to sick at the time. The stories he would tell, the unending laughter he had when he told a joke and could never get to the punch line. I could write for hours regaling all readers with memorable stories, but I digress. I will say thank you Grandpa for being my Grandpa. For teaching me very practical things and very lasting ones. I WILL MISS YOU but because I was there to hear confess that you have JESUS in your heart as your Lord and Savior, I know I will see YOU and GRANDMA and MOM (pat) one day in heaven, but if its ok with you, just not quite yet.
I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART , Marybeth

My great-grandfather was an amazing man. He was quick witted, sharp and always had a joke ready. He was a kind, giving man and if I'm a tenth of what he was, then I'd be blessed than I ever could have imagined. I miss you Grandpa, watch over me.
Love,
Aaron "Gabby" Highmiller
