My deepest condolences.. I have known this wonderful man and his parents since I was a little girl who lived on the same street as they did. He married my mother and her husband. He was the reason I wanted to play piano as a young girl... and when my mother was dying, I found him and he blessed her and myself over the phone so many times.. his smile will stay with me forever...and I have known him since 1975. I loved his parents and they welcomed my mother and I into their family. I stayed overnight with Gramma Ann...her dog Lori...and I remember Grampa Charles and Ann always on their front porch.. one of my many fond memories on Malcolm St.. <3

Msgr. McCloskey was a unique individual because he was very spiritual and yet very human. That is why he was so endearing. He could relate to us and we to him, and he so seamlessly would ground us in faithful focus on the Lord. He was the face of our Lord in his daily word and deed, as witnessed by so many. What a fine teacher and role model for young and old alike. And now our spiritual grandfather will be praying for us in complete union with his Creator. How blessed are we! We will miss Msgr. but our souls will always be warmed by his humor and his love.

Msgr. McCloskey was as close to being an angel on earth as any mortal could be, and I'm sure he has been rewarded by joining the heavenly angels as they rejoice together in the light and love of God's presence.
Rest in peace, Msgr., we will miss you!

You made going to church fun, at least for this kid who hated giving up any time in the summer to sit in church (until folk group). I was sad when you left Holy Family, but when you went to my "other" childhood church, St Brigid's, I was happy for that congregation. You were a wonderful person who genuinely cared about each of us. Thank you for being in my life. Rest in Peace.

Msgr. McCloskey was a wonderful man, and his devotion to Mary was heartwarming. When my mother passed away, he officiated at her wake. My son was not quite two, and he brought in his "bird" watch that made bird calls. He had all the children gathered around him to listen to his watch. He never entered the church without getting hugs or hand shakes from members of the parish. He was very much beloved! Rest in peace, Msgr. McCloskey!

My deepest sympathy to those who loved and adored Msgr. McCloskey. My favorite memory of Msgr. McCloskey was when my husband and I met with him to discuss our wedding ceremony. As we sat in the office at the St. Brigid & St. Joseph rectory finalizing the details, he picked up his calendar and said that he was golfing that morning and that he couldn’t marry us on the Saturday we picked but he could do it the following weekend. I looked over at my soon to be husband and we looked at Msgr. McCloskey and he was laughing. He did perform our ceremony but I think it was only because I called him twice that morning to make sure he was going to show up. That was 28 years ago. He was an amazing man with a loving heart who truly cared for his parishioners.

Dear Treasured Friend:
Touched by an 'angel'
Surely I be
Knowing the likes of
Treasured friend - McCloskey.
Gentle and genuine
Generous, too
If you didn't know Fr. Jim
I feel sorry for you.
Always an open heart
Listened with skill
Never imposing
Upon you his will.
A permanent smile
He wore on his face
A welcome to strangers
God's presence and grace.
I reminded him recently
Of a joke that he told
I can't repeat it but
It was pure gold.
It endeared me to him
Even more than before
This great holy man
Small a.. I adored.
I can only imagine
The robe and the ring
That he'll be presented
By his Savior and King.
If it's Advent in Heaven
Jim's waiting is o'er
As God's grace and thanksgiving
Upon him is poured.
And so we give thanks
Our lives have been blessed
To have him in ours
Welcome 'home' - you're the best!
From a loving and grateful heart.

My condolences to Monsignor's family and all who loved him. He became very close to my family while he served at St Brigid's. His wonderful personality with his hugs and corny jokes and words of wisdom, will be sorely missed. My husband worked with him as School Board President at West Side Catholic....I was in bible study, renew, and religious classes for Porter School students with him.My daughter Missy worked at the rectory for many years while she was at Bishop Ludden......he touched all our lives. Rest in Peace dearest friend.
