Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan Ann (Halloran) Slade, age 81, a lifelong resident of Syracuse, died peacefully, on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Joan was a gentle and kind soul that warmed the hearts of everyone she came in contact with. She was the loving daughter of James and Helen Halloran and lived her whole life in Syracuse, NY. Joan graduated from Central High School in 1950. She was primarily a home maker, but later in life worked part-time at two different doctors' offices, and for St. Joseph's Hospital. Joan was married to Robert A. Slade until 1988.
Joan enjoyed cooking for her family and cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She was an animal lover who took in a stray cat brought to her door by the little girls in her neighborhood. Her cat Kara was her companion for many years. She loved traveling, especially visiting New York City where she liked to shop and sightsee.
Joan was a devout Catholic who was a founding member of St. Ann's Church in 1955. Since 2011, Joan has resided at Loretto's Fahey and Heritage Residence.
Joan is predeceased by her parents and older brother Jack Halloran, who died way too young of cancer. Joan is survived by her loving sons, Roberts T. (Kathy) and Michael J. (Lisa) and four grandchildren, Ryan (Kristen), Joan, Jack and Elizabeth, and one great grandson, Aaron, all of Syracuse.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 22 at St. Ann's Church, 4471 Onondaga Blvd., Syracuse, NY 13219. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt.
