My best friend, Dee Dee, moved in next-to Marilyn about 12+ years ago. Dee Dee simply adored Marilyn and became very close with her, so spending a bit of time with Marilyn became an annual ritual for me when I would come in from Buffalo for Dee Dee's birthday weekend every June. I always re-introduced myself as Dee Dee's friend from Buffalo, thinking Marilyn wouldn't remember me, but she always did. She always did. We would chat about her roses, dip our toes in her pool, or discuss the latest goings-on with her family or with the neighborhood—that is, when she was not busy following the Yankees. So I, too, began to adore Marilyn, even though I only saw her once a year. I always looked forward to seeing Marilyn, as she became such a staple to my visits. I will miss Marilyn very much this June, but will always remember what a nifty, wonderful woman she was and think of her fondly when I see her beautiful rose bush...
