This was a very gracious and giving man. Someone many aspire to be but most come up short. I am one such person, I am John's biological son. I was put up for adoption in 1963 but was lucky enough to meet my biological father in the mid 2000s. He was still working with the girl's softball team and I met him when the team came to Clearwater, FL, my hometown, to play a few round robin games.
I was always impressed, inspired by the man's commitment to work and the generosity of his time to those in need. Hopefully, his selflessness rubbed off on me. He lived for his work and was much appreciated by those he effected.
The world is a poorer place now without him. I have been told his mother met him at the gates of Heaven and that makes me feel very happy. He deserved the best that life, and now rebirth, has to offer.
Thanks John, we will all miss you. Our loss is Heaven's gain. God bless you John, and all of your family and friends ...
-Wm "Jim" Connolly

I knew John best when he was in his teens and early twenties. He was a good friend of my brother, Martin Ward, and used to come by our house. I have happy memories of John and Martin joking and laughing about things happening in their lives and, of course, talking sports. Then off they would go in John's car that was always breaking down. This was followed by waits for new car parts. No matter, the car always got fixed and back on the road, and if I asked to go with them, they sometimes included me. Those were happy times.
Rest in peace, John.

Doc was amazing and one of a kind. I’ll never forget him and his classic warm ups before a training session and all the student athletes who’s days he made brighter. He will be missed, may angels lead you in Doc...
