The Romocki Family is sending our deepest sympathies to the entire Kelly family. Mr. Kelly was such a kind, thoughtful and caring man who always was a pleasure to be around. He most recently taught our son Connor golf lessons at Green Lakes. Golf lessons at Green Lakes was a summer highlight for Connor - he loved the golf lessons and the lunch at the end of the lessons with Mr. Kelly. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Our sincere condolences on your loss. Rocky was a beacon of light in a sometimes dimly lit world. He was the consumate gentleman whose only desire was to make your day brighter for crossing his path. It is ironic the good Lord called him back in these unprecedented times. He obviously needed him to help up there more than we needed him here. Rocky and I went to different high schools together and enjoyed our times then. He was always a very fun guy. We shared a golf heritage with Emmett and Larry memorialized on "the inaugural rock" at Green Lakes. Rocky was so fortunate to inherit the golf gene. And he made his mark in the the CNY golf world. Our condolences and prayers for Mary Sue and your family. You enjoyed a long life together which is such a gift from God, blessed with a beautiful family. May God continue these blessings to you all.

My deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the whole Kelly Clan. I deeply saddened by this news but I have so many wonderful memories of Rocky, most of them from my years as a bag boy at Cavalry Club. He was a true gentleman, with that infectious smile. He taught me a lot, mostly how to treat people with kindness and respect even when they are being irrational!! One of my fondest memories at Cavalry was I had just 3 jacked coming out of the bunker on the 9th hole, well on my way to shooting 197! I walked by the pro shop and Rocky gave me some words of encouragement as my playing partners were trying to get me to quit the game. I walked up to the tenth tee with a little glimmer of hope because of Rocky's kindness and promptly yanked my drive across Troop K Road into the driving range! I should have taken up tiddily winks! On the 18th hole, Rocky was outside waiting and watched me four putt. He came over, put his hand on my shoulder and said "lets go." He took me to the driving range, threw 5 balls in the bunker, gave a two minute lesson on how to get out and stood there as I did exactly what he told me to do. To this day, it's the only part of my game that i'm not terrified about. I know there are thousands of golfers all over CNY that can tell similar stories. Thank you Rocky for your kindness, your guidance, the words of encouragement, your patience but most of all, your friendship. May you rest in peace.

Rocky Kelly was one of the nicest and most beloved people I've ever known and a West End Syracuse legend. He positively affected countless peoples lives and will be truly missed. He was a great friend. We held the final outing of our Tipp Hill Golf league at Green Lakes for many years and we always looked forward to seeing Rocky. He loved to follow Westhill basketball and we'd chat often on it. I was very fortunate to have him give lessons to both myself and my son. I took the attached picture at our final lesson this past summer. I will hold onto that picture for the rest of my life. I offer my deepest condolences to his wife Sue and their children.

Sue and the entire Kelly, Holmes, and Driscoll Families,
Vicki and I were so saddened in hearing of Rocky's passing. Rock was such a wonderful man in all aspects of his life. We had a great time with him as our JV and CYO varsity coach at St. Patrick's. And just being a friend to everyone he met.
The best 5 summers of my life were working for Rock at Camillus Country Club along with Bobby "Horse" Corning and Dr. Pat Hayes. We had such a great time, I don't know how the Forward Family put up with us. Rocky made the Club such great place to be a part of, the membership loved him.
I last spoke to him in August of 2019 and we had a great conversation and a lot of laughs. I seldom get back home, so l realize how special the call became to me.

To the Kelly Family-
I was so sad to hear of Mr. Kelly’s passing, and at this strange time in our lives. I am thinking of all of you now, and I am sure there will be a wonderful celebration of Rocky’s life when this ends. He was such a nice man, and he had a big impact on so many in the community.
Some of the best memories I have from our time at St. Charles are from going to the basketball games, and specifically cheering for the team. The only cheer that I distinctly remember is the following, so I had to share it- and I am sure some of you will remember it as well…
(to the tune of Johnny B. Goode, by Chuck Berry)
Down on Tipperary, north of Coleman’s Grill
We found Coach Kelly playin’ “King of the Hill”
He taught us how to dribble, and he taught us to fight
The mighty mighty Chargers gonna win tonight!

Dear Mrs K. & family , my heart just broke hearing the news of Rocky. May his spirit live on by the love he gave to each of you and the love you have for each other .
I’ve known the Kelly Family since grade school at St. Chuck’s...but
my fondest memories of Rocky are from my days working for him at The Clinton Square Ice Rink. I’ll never forget the day I arrived and he very nonchalantly told me he had agreed to have me be the face of the rink in an article for the Newspaper. They would be in to take my picture and interview me the next day! (F.Y.I. I despise having my picture taken ) The next day...after commandeering his office and turning it into a makeshift beauty salon. He came in to grab something. His desk was covered in Makeup -curling irons -just girly chaos. I said ,”Rock whatever you do ...just don’t touch anything that’s plugged in. You will burn yourself ! “ I’ll never forget the look of sheer terror on his face . (Being the Father of ALL BOYS)...He shook his head as he always did with that Kelly smirk and QUICKLY retreated saying.., “ OK . ..Mary- Claire I’ll let ya get back to whatever it is that you are doing ?!..I don’t understand what all this stuff does??? ...you were pretty when you got here weren’t ya???! Ha!!
They don’t make men like RK anymore.
R.I.P Rocky the world won’t be the same without you.

Rocky and the Kelly family have been and always will be an extension of ours. It has been this way for over 45 years growing up across the street on Bronson Rd. Rocky (and Sue) were both huge inspirations to us kids growing up as neighbors; extremely generous, funny, caring and always seemed to be there when you needed them to lend an ear. There are so many great memories with Rocky and the family back then it actually makes me smile thinking about them during this sad time. A few of my favorites reaching way back were Rocky driving all of us crazy kids in the old family wagon (while hanging out the back window) up to old Archbold Stadium for SU Football games, road trips we took together up to Hollywood Lodge in Old Forge, Rocky coaching me in hoops at St Charles during the legendary "Midgets vs Giants" game, Rocky getting us all into the fair the night before it opened year after year with his fake police badge, making Kev & I wash clubs in the clubhouse to earn our rounds of golf at the Calvary Club, and of course the classic Turkey Bowls at Geddes Field. Rocky's laughter and quick wit were always front and center during all of these incredible events. But while spending most of my childhood constantly in and out of the Kelly house, my favorite memory of Rocky was always how excited he was to see me. I remember coming into the kitchen a million times at 508 Bronson and seeing him peek through the wall hole from his desk...and I can hear him now: "Hey Jo Jo!!" He always made my day that much brighter. Making other people happy was Rocky's superpower. RIP.

Please accept my deepest sympathy in your loss. Rocky was my first crush. We lived next door in Mr Curtain’s house. I was 5 to his 15. I thought he was the greatest person. I was head over heels. Always at their fri to door looking for him where Grandma Behan would give me a cookie. I got to be Queen if Babe Ruth for his baseball team because if his family. There was a parade and everything. We had a hammock on the front porch. I got the mumps. Rocky would come over and lay on the hammock and talk to me through the window screen when I was sick. After we moved to Tennyson with my Grandmother I didn’t see him again until I was about 18. My Mom, boyfriend and I were at a band concert at Burnet Park when this young man sat down suddenly in the end of my chaise lounges and asked who the guy was trying to muscle in on his girl. He was probably married by then but it still makes the little girl in me smile. May happy thoughts bring you comfort during this difficult time.
