Obituary of Philip E. Wright

Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Philip E. Wright, 68, of Syracuse passed away Wednesday January 20, 2021 after a hard fought battle with Covid-19.

He was born in Syracuse and raised by his late parents, Lila and Charles Wright.  Phil dedicated 38 years to the Syracuse DPW until his retirement as Superintendent of Street Cleaning in 2008.  He also spent many years as a football coach from pop-warner to the high school level, most recently as an assistant coach with the West Genesee Football family.  Nothing gave him more pride than passing on respect, honor and loyalty while being called “Coach”.

Phil has enjoyed his retirement spending time with Nancy, family and friends, traveling to Florida in the winter and entertaining in their backyard resort where he was master of the grill and known to enjoy a Budweiser or two.  Phil was a selfless man that was loved and will be missed by many.

Survived by the love of his life, Nancy Collins, daughter, Lisa (John) Shostack, grand-daughter, Mariah Wright, Aunt Beverly Wright, and step-children, Kevin (Sheila) Collins, Brian (Sue) Collins, Kerri (Gary) Lopez and 8 step grandchildren and many lifelong friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Lila and Charles Wright, son, Aaron Wright, grandson, Jacob Shostack, and stepson, Christopher Collins.

Calling hours will be held Saturday from 1-4 PM at Edward J Ryan funeral home, 3180 Bellevue Ave Syracuse, NY 13219.

A private service will be held.
