Obituary of W. James Mastin, Sr.

Please share a memory of W. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jim Mastin, 86, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on July 24, 2022.  He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Frances Mastin and sister, Ginny Ferris.  He is survived by five children; Mary Mastin, Jennifer (Michael, deceased) Mullins, Gina (Chuck) Johanningsmeier, W. James Mastin Jr., and Kathy (Matthew) Wick, 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Jim was born and lived his entire life in Syracuse, NY.  He started working for his father at the People’s Ice Company as a young boy and eventually owned it for many years. Jim was very proud that he received a degree in accounting from LeMoyne College. To provide for his family, Jim often worked two jobs, at the ice company and as an accountant.  He then worked for Syracuse University for 28 years as the Director of Business, Licensing and Operations for Institutional Services. Jim enjoyed seeing his children around campus, four of whom attended Syracuse University. He was a communicant of St. Charles/St. Ann's Parish.

Jim enjoyed wintering in his Florida home with his wife. He most enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends as often as possible. Jim was a very caring, generous man who went out of his way to help anyone in need. Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rescue Mission or St. Charles/St. Ann’s Parish.
