People often talk about a teacher who impacted his or her life, sometimes in profound ways. For me, that teacher was Christine Edinger.
I developed a love of numbers at an early age and was considered to be a good math student all through school. But Ms. Edinger’s teaching style provided the perfect mix of structure and inspiration that allowed me to consider a future working with numbers. She expected each of her students to make his or her best effort, and she made it safe to attempt challenging work, assuring us that she was there to provide encouragement and guidance.
Before I graduated from West Genesee, I contemplated pursuing a career as an engineer. But I soon realized that I wanted to follow in Ms. Edinger’s footsteps, helping students to recognize their potential while discovering the importance of math in each of their lives.
When I became a high school math teacher, I knew I could rely on Ms. Edinger’s sage advice whenever I reached out to her. She continues to inspire me every day, and I only hope to be an inspiration to each of my students in the same manner that Ms. Edinger has been an inspiration to me.
