Obituary of John Perkins Bennett
John Perkins Bennett, of Westvale, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 3rd, 2022. John was born, April 10th, 1951, in Tipperary Hill to the late John and Mildred Bennett. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School, Class of 1969, and the University of Buffalo. John retired as treasurer of Welch Allyn and worked as an accountant at Dermody, Burke, and Brown and Crouse Hinds. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and friends. John loved vacationing in Inlet and Anna Maria Island, and was happiest on the beach with a beautiful sunset. He enjoyed playing golf, reading, listening to music, singing, cooking out of the Dinosaur BBQ cookbook, Gannon’s ice cream, Rock Steady Boxing, SU sports, and his Wednesday afternoons at The Blarney Stone with his life long friends. John’s quick wit and quiet strength will always be remembered. He was a kind, thoughtful, humble, gracious, generous, patient, courageous and persistent man, loved by so many.
John was predeceased by his son, Michael, his sister, Karen, and his brothers, Michael and Peter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Catherine (Kelly) Bennett, daughters, Erin (Dan) Ganley, Caitlin (Eric) Zimmerman and grandchildren, Caroline, Danny, Niamh and Nora. He is also survived by his brother, Kevin (Barb) Bennett, brothers in law, Todd Garris, John Kelly, Paul (Shary) Dolan, Jim (Katie) Kelly and sister in law, Sr. Ellen Dolan, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Georganne, who took such good care of him, and the wonderful staff, especially Mallory and Erin, at Hospice of CNY and of the Finger Lakes.
Calling hours will be at Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave., Syracuse on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 4-7 pm. Funeral services at St. Patrick’s and St. Brigid’s Church, 216 North Lowell Ave. on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in John’s name, to Empower Parkinson, Inc. or St. Patrick’s and St. Brigid’s Church.
