Denny was indeed the neighborhood dad. He often helped my brothers and I with whatever we might need. He even took in a stray dog that I found and I wasn't allowed to keep. A big heart that always cared. He had an infectious smile that would make your day. I am forever grateful for Denny and all members of the Schwald family. My childhood was even more special with Denny and his beloved family in my life.

Diane,Dennis and Denise, Condolences to you and your families. Everyone who met Denny was greeted with a smile, maybe a "Dad" joke or some helpful advice. Hartson St and the neighborhood will not be the same without him.

Papa,
I love you so much! I wish there was a proper way for me to thank you for everything you have done for us. I'm really going to miss you. You were always up for anything, whether it was painting your nails or playing a game with me, I could always count on you. It is said that no one is truly gone as long as someone remembers them, and I can promise you that you will never be forgotten. You are a true hero to many and really could do anything, even win a card game you didn't know how to play. From bike riding and tinkering to air hockey and rollerskating there really isn't anything you couldn't do. I'm really going to miss you but we will make sure that Grandma is okay and keep her safe for you. Same goes with your furry friends. I wish I got to spend more time with you and that I could continue to ask you for your great advice and learn from your creative and patient ways, but I know everyone has to go at some point. I just wish I could tell you in words how thankful I am and how lucky I was to have you as my Papa. I'll continue to trust and smile with you and know that you will always be by my side whenever I need you. I wish I could give you a better goodbye but I know that I can't because this isn't a final farewell. I'll see you again someday and in memories and stories. I know you loved us so much and would always take care of us. And for that I am truly grateful. But i'll try to keep an eye on everyone for you, so rest up. Next time I see you we will have a lot to talk about and catch up on. I love you to the moon and back and will forever try to make you proud.
Love yas ~ Nina Bug

My Papa is the most amazing person I have ever known. He was so patient, kind, and generous, never judging a book by it's cover, and seeing the good in everyone when no one else could. I love him so much and I know that he loved me, and was so proud of us, not just because he said it, but because he showed it every day. He kept pictures of us on his dresser and kept everything we ever gave or made for him. He took us camping, kayaking, biking, for ice cream, roller skating and so many more places, so that he could share every moment with us. At Christmas he spent hours helping me build a mini radio, patiently teaching me how to solder, and even helping me strip wires from an old phone cord when we were short one red wire. He helped me build a Barbie doll boat with flex seal paint and balsam wood. And when I couldn't have been older than 8 he sat in the backyard with me, throwing his spare change into a hole I had dug which I figured had to be the treasure of David Bradly. The next time he visited he brought his metal detector, so we could search the rest of the yard. He was there for every Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthday, and break. He would have given us the world if he could. It doesn't quite seem real that he is gone, and the moments that it does just hurt so badly. I want to hold his hand, and feel his hugs. I love you so much Papa and I appreciate everything you've ever done for me. I will miss you so much more that words can ever express. I love you Papa. Love, Drew

Thank you all for your loving and kind words. Many have asked about services. My father’s request was to not have services, he never wanted us to gather in sadness. I know that so many people loved my father, he was the most amazing man. Always helping others whether they were family or strangers, and everyone in between. He loved to teach what he knew, and he knew so much. He had more patience than anyone I’ve ever known…unless you cut him off on the road! Seriously! My dad was a dad to everyone. If you needed a helping hand, a lending hand, a lesson, a pep talk, or a scolding, he never hesitated. He LOVED a good joke and he was such a prankster, the biggest kid at the adult table maybe with the exception of his brother Bill that is. To know him was to love him, and I share that with all who do. But I was the luckiest by far because this great man was my dad. He worked so hard but never did I find him too busy for me, he lived to see his children happy. He wrote a love note to my mom (and us) every morning when he left for work, for over 30 years. He still held her hand, he fixed her coffee when he heard her get out of bed each morning. My daughters lost him too soon, but they have memories and stories of their Papa that will last a lifetime, he was so proud of them both. My father could tell you how proud he was of you with a simple look, no words needed. He gave me so much, grand daughters were my gift to him and he loved them with his whole heart.
This and more should have been said in his obituary, but below is what we could write in that difficult moment. Tell your memories and stories of him whenever you get the chance. Tell a good joke and know that if he’s near he will be laughing. I don’t know how I’ll get through some days without seeing him or being able to talk to him, to ask his advice, to benefit from his love and wisdom. But that I had him for MY dad makes me so very blessed.
I love you Dad! Don’t let Uncle Bill get you into too much trouble, I know he’s been waiting for you with a long list of mischief!

So sorry to hear about Denny, I can't remember a time when I didn't know him. We went from neighbors, to co-workers, to friends. I'm so glad that I recently made the effort to stop by and visit. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
