My husband and I are so sorry to hear of Kathy's passing. Sean and Kathy went on many trips together to help rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Sean was always glad to work with her. Kathy spent many hours, trying to convince Sean to become a vegetarian, even giving him books to read. And eventually it worked! He has been a vegetarian for over 15 years now. Kathy was also a great help when I was looking for a new car and couldn't decide whether to get a Subaru or a Prius; Kathy had had both.
Kathy will be missed by many. We wish peace for her family and friends.

I met Kathy through city rec softball in the mid-70s and I have been blessed with her friendship ever since.
Kathy was a consummate competitor. Kathy ritually led the weekly softball team post-game analysis in the bar area of our team sponsor (the Gilberti family’s restaurant). The Corner House team was the Women’s City Playoff Champion of 1979 in a classic, clutch-hitting come-from-behind victory. Kathy, of course, was in the middle of all of it.
We played slow pitch softball for decades with women from the Corner House team. Many of us represented the CNY region at the Empire State Seniors Games in Cortland NY in 2002 and 2003. We took home the bronze medal in 2002 and we were the gold medal winners in 2003.
The obituary wording describing Kathy says it beautifully: “a fiercely loyal, considerate and steadfast friend.”
The many tributes to Kathy from former students, sorority sisters, co-workers and friends speak volumes about her positive impact on others. I am honored to call Kathy, my friend. I like to think of her now as another “angel in the outfield” …and I’m sure she’d correct me and say that she was always an infielder. I will miss her.

I thought of Ms flack often, she left an impression on me. She was my gym teacher from 72 to 74. As hard as she tried to get me to do gymnastics I was always to scared. She was a great and fun teacher. I was always glad to hear she was still teaching. My condolences, but be pleased to know she was well liked by many students.

I am still not sure how it happened, but I took over the helm from Kathy to organize 2020 Arethusa Reunion. I felt like a rookie star struck taking over for the legend. My first memory of Kathy was in the summer of 1970 something when she organized an Arethusa Reunion at a park in Syracuse. She was and always will be the heart and soul of Arethusa. RIP my friend.

“Ms. Flack” was one of the most important people in my high school life from when she showed up in my home room and “ suggested “ I run cross country to when she handed me a letter from Brown University and “ suggested “ I apply. Throughout and after she was treasured for being so real. She told you like it was but you truly felt the love. Thinking about her now brings a smile but this is a big loss. My condolences to her family and friends. ❤️

After graduating from Cortland, Kathy and Susan Balcewitz held reunions up in the Syracuse area. They recognized the need to keep together. The college eventually stepped in and organized 5 year reunions for the Greeks, other organizations and years. Kathy realized that 5 years was too long an interval and suggested Raquette Lake for an annual pilgrimage. Through sheer determination, Kathy convinced us that Raquette Lake was a good idea. "She was a force to be reckoned with". For 20 years she organized and led our annual retreat to Racquette Lake. Our lives were all becoming very busy but Kathy's efforts enabled us to keep our friendships strong. What a wonderful gift she gave us!
She was a remarkable friend, kind, generous in spirit and outspoken.
Kathy was one of a kind and I am so fortunate to be one of her friends.
Love in A,
Deb

I met Kathy in 1971 when I first got into softball and she was first starting to teach at Henninger High School. I was just starting to play softball and knew nothing of the game. All the teams were going to the Corner House Restaurant after the games for food and drinks etc. and I met Kathy there, as one of her student's father owned the Corner House Restaurant. She taught me the game so well that we ended up bringing home the Gold Medal at the Empire State Senior Games. She will be missed by me as well as many many of her students, friends and family. thanks for the fun Kathy, Donna Nichols

So very sorry to hear of Kathy's passing. She was some years ahead of me at Cortland, but once a (sorority) sister, always a sister!! She really was, for many years, the "tie" that bound us all together, keeping us up to date on all Arethusa, Raquette Lake and Cortland College community events. May she enjoy many wonderful rounds of golf and lots of gorgeous Raquette Lake sunsets in heaven!
RIP Kathy.....

I met Kathy over 20 years ago when we were both members at Drumlins Golf Club. We had many fun times golfing, in league and enjoying a casual round of golf on numerous days. When we would golf, it was always a fun banter between the both of us. She was a fierce competitor in golf and everything she did. I’ve had a lot of fun and laughs with Kathy over the years. She traveled with me and my partner Sarah, friends Joanne and Mary on our trip to Ireland back in 2011. We enjoyed a week of touring Ireland then the second week at the LPGA Solheim Cup. We had a lot of laughs and good memories on that trip. In recent times, I enjoyed our many happy hours at one of her neighbors house during COVID and after COVID back at Drumlins restaurant. Many fond and happy memories have been flooding back as I think of Kathy this week. I will miss her and as the Irish Blessing goes “Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.” My condolences to Kathy’s family and friends.

I first met "Miss Flack" when she was my physical education teacher at Westlake High School in Thornwood, New York during my senior year of high school (1969/1970 school year). Imagine my surprise when, 3 years later, I discovered that I was now her sorority sister after I joined Arethusa Sorority at SUNY Cortland! She visited Arethusa often while I was there, and I always enjoyed her company. Rest in peace, Kathy! I hope your "heaven" is at Raquette Lake. Sue Belevich Schilling SUNY Cortland 1974.

My best golf pal at Drumlins! Always a fun round with the occasional tip or reminder about my play. We shared many interests and loved attending SU WBB games together. Connecting over the occasional shared meal, and meet-ups at happy hour...More recently I've missed and will continue to miss running into Kathy walking in the neighborhood. A solid, solid friend. We'll be raising a glass of your red wine to you often.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Kathy’s passing. Although Kathy had graduated before I came to SUNY Cortland and joined Arethusa Sorority, she was such an enduring leader and engaging personality, that we all knew her from sorority alumni events. I appreciated that she maintained the sorority online distribution list for many years, informed us of events and encouraged us to attend. She truly believed in the green and white ties of Arethusa sisterhood and reached across the classes to bind us together. My condolences to Kathy’s family and friends, who knew her best. RIP Kathy. You made a difference.
Sincerely,
Pat Kelly

Kathy I will hold onto my wonderful memories of you. I would look forward to your visits on the Cape. Our times kayaking down the Swan River in Dennis, Hanging out on the beach over lobster dinner. I marveled at the conversations you and Carmel had about sports; you knew everything about the players, no matter if the conversation was about College or Professional sports teams you knew it all and loved to follow the game. I often thought you would be a great sports writer with a little sass.
Do you remember you would scold me if I touch your things you would announce to me this is my pile of stuff don't touch! If you know Kathy she would arrive with 3 or 4 crossword puzzles from New York Times, a kindle, computer, books and her eye drops and etc. I thought she was moving in. I would have loved that.
Thank you for being you!!
Love always,
Jennifer
