Obituary of Sister Patricia Bergan

Sister Patricia, went home to God on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at the Franciscan Villa in Syracuse, New York.  Sister was born in Auburn, New York to Luke and Mary Twyne Bergan.  She was 87 years old and had been a Sister of St. Francis 63 years.

 

She was an elementary teacher ministering in Syracuse and Utica, New York as well as Hoboken, New Brunswick and Trenton, New Jersey.  Sister went on to become a Director of Religious Education, Parish Care Minister. 

Sister was very active in social justice and was inspired to make the Gospel connection beyond the classroom.  She ministered as a Parish Associate at St. Lucy/St. Andrew Parish on the Westside of Syracuse, New York.  In 2018 she was awarded the Humanitarian Service Award which recognized individuals who display a consistent desire to improve the human condition through a life of service. 

 

She was pre-deceased by her parents.  She is survived by her brother William (Frances) Bergan and sister Patricia Bergan and the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities of Syracuse, New York.

 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, December 30, 2024 at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 432 Gifford Street, Syracuse, NY 13204. 

 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: St. Lucy/St. Andrew Church, The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities and/or Alden Street Foundation.
